Topotepuy was founded by Billy and Kath Phelps in the fifties, intended to be a site for the observation and preservation of nature. During their lifetime, Billy and Kathy Phelps traveled all over Venezuela carrying out over forty expeditions to complete the bird collection started by Billy’s father, the most important in Venezuela and perhaps the most important private ornithological collection in the world.

In 2002, the recovery of the gardens and the clouded forest of Topotepuy got underway. At the same time, the work of classifying the plants commenced; American species are planted with special emphasis on orchids, bromeliads, ferns and exotic plants, consolidating a collection of many species of plants.

Topotepuy Gardens wishes to be a biologically preserved and auto-sustainable area, of great value for people interested in natural sciences as well as nature lovers, with the aim to educate the public regarding the advantages and values of conservation, observation and the study of nature.

There are four hectares (nearly ten acres) full of different gardens: floral, aquatic, xerophytic, herbs and medicinal, anthurium, ferns and roses, along with comfortable areas that will make you visit an unforgettable one.

In addition, we offer guided or self-guided tours. Visits are only for groups by prior appointment. You may also arrange to use our facilities for corporate events.
